The Federation for Scottish Culture in Nova Scotia (FSCNS)
The Federation
for Scottish Culture in Nova Scotia
has represented Nova Scotia’s Scottish-cultural communities,
cultural associations and clans since 1982. In the wake of the 1st
International Gathering of the Clans in Nova Scotia in 1979, the
Federation has actively sought partnerships with the larger Scottish
community and with our sister organizations. It endeavours to
create an appreciation of Scottish culture, traditions and heritage
across the region. Its members celebrate the Scots’ status as a
founding people of “Alba Nuadh” or “New Scotland.” Together,
members of the Federation for Scottish Culture work to preserve and to
promote Scottish Culture and Heritage. It celebrates the
contributions of generations of Scots to the fabric of Canadian
society.
The FSCNS has four core values: (1) to foster and
maintain the Scottish Culture and the Gaelic Language in Nova
Scotia. (2) to provide a focal point for clan organizations in Nova
Scotia and to respond to their requirements, (3) to represent the
Clan organizations in dealing with governments at all levels, other
Scottish groups, other cultural groups, and the public, (4) to
provide a coordinating function for major Scottish cultural events,
such as the 2011 International Gathering of the Clans in Nova
Scotia.
The Federation for Scottish Culture in Nova Scotia is very
proud to be a founding member of the United Council of Scots in
Atlantic Canada.
